If you want to build a successful blog optimizing for social media sharing and connection building is a must.
I’ve used most of these social media plugins on my own blogs and they rock.
Implement these into your blog as well and turbo-charge your results with WordPress and social media!
Flare is the free plugin responsible for the ajax floating social sharing buttons that follow you as you scroll down the page.
This awesome looking plugin can also implement buttons into the top and bottom of your posts and/or pages. My recommendation is to implement buttons into the top of your posts.
Check out the dashboard view of flare below to see just how easy this plugin is to customize and implement.
Selecting the social media buttons you want to feature in flare is a breeze.
I use Shareaholic to add snazzy social sharing buttons to the bottom of every blog post on all of my blogs.
This plugin used to be called SexyBookmarks before it was acquired for being so awesome by Shareaholic.
Here is a snap shot of the plugin dashboard to give you an idea of what to expect:
In addition to great looking customizable social sharing buttons Shareaholic also comes with a related content plugin.
I use this plugin on my quotes blog Epic Inspirational Quotes and it has worked well for increasing the amount of time people send on the site.
3. WP MashSocial Widget
If you are a fan of the blog Mashable you will probably also like WP MashSocial Widget as it makes it easy to promote your social media profiles in a style that is similar to the template they use.
This plugin is a good option for people who want to implement a like box and Twitter follow button into their sidebar but are not familiar enough with code to copy and paste these stand alone plugins into a text widget.
Although I just use this plugin for Facebook and Twitter it can also be used for allows you to add your Pinterest, G+ , and Feedburner Feed Subscription into it.
4. Facebook Like Box
A Facebook Like Box is one of the most powerful ways to get more Facebook Likes for your page so if you have a Facebook page you want to grow I highly recommend you use one.
There are two ways that you can implement the Like Box into your WordPress blog.
There is a Facebook Like Box widget plugin but it tends to have a slow load time since the code is called from WordPress then Facebook rather than directly from Facebook.
The best way to go is to copy the code directly from the Like Box building tool from Facebook. This way you can easily customize your like box the way you want it and you have the fastest loading option.
Below you can see a preview of the tool and the Like Box I built for my new quotes blog Epic Inspirational Quotes.
5. Facebook Page Promoter Lightbox
The Facebook Page Promoter Lightbox is a lightbox that shades out your website while highlighting your Like Box.
Although I prefer to use a Lightbox to promote my newsletter, I have tested this method and it is very effective for getting new likes.
Implementing one of these plugins into your blog can multiply the the amount of Likes you get by literally 10x or more.
A recent study done by Aweber proved that using a Lightbox can lead to 1,374% more subscribers and by looking at the conversion stats since implementing this new Facebook social plugin into my blog Epic Inspirational Quotes I can confirm that these stats apply to getting more Facebook likes as well.
Below is what the plugin looks like in action.
You can adjust the delay before this plugin shows and how frequently it will show to your visitors.
Implement this plugin if you want to get more Facebook fan page likes fast.
There is a Twitter Like Box Lightbox as well.
6. Google+ Add to Circles Badge
Google+ is the second-largest social networking site in the world, having surpassed Twitter in January 2013.
It has approximately 359 million active users. As of May 2013, it had a total of 500 million registered users, of whom 235 million are active in a given month.
Due to this reason I implemented a widget to connect my personal profile. Badges exist for Google+ pages and communities as well.
Using this badge visitors to your site can connect with you on Google+ without having to click away.
Here is a preview of the Google+ badge builder tool:
If you are not comfortable with copying the code from the widget above you can use the slightly slower Easy Google+ Badge WordPress plugin.
7. Social Toolbar
The Social Toolbar is a cool looking plugin for adding a highly customizable toolbar with color selection, social network icons, recent tweet and share buttons into the footer of your site.
8. Fancier Author Box
Fancier Author Box is the author box you’ll find at the bottom of this post, above the comments.
I like this plugin because it makes it easy to connect your readers with icons of your favorite social media profiles.
9. Follow Me Side Tab
You can use the Follow Me Tabs to include your “follow me” tabs on your WordPress site as icons on different screen positions.
Clicking on one of the different social media icons will redirect your visitor to one of your social networks.
This plugin comes with a cool slide out animation and provides yet another neat way of promoting your social media profiles.
Below is a screen capture of what this plugin looks like and here is a link to a live demo.
10. WordPress Notification Bar
The WordPress Notification Bar is a free plugin that can help you increase traffic to any social media profile or link you promote, without having a negative effect on your bounce rate or the user experience of your site.
If you are looking to send 1 to 2% of your overall site traffic towards growing one of your social profiles use this plugin with a compelling call to action.
This plugin is simple and effective and I was one of the many customers who it back when it was first launched as the Hello Bar. Now you can simply download this clone plugin and get the same snazzy website feature for free.
